Reading Resources:
In our first grade classroom, your child will be working on Dolch sight words. It is critical that young readers and writers develop automatic recognition because it is a skill that will lead them to become fluent readers.
The end of the year goal for your child is 220 sight words. Your child will work on a different set of five sight words per week, and will be taught explicitly in whole group reading, Daily 5 rotations as well as with Mr. D and myself. Your child is also expected to practice their current list for homework. .
In our classroom Mr.D and myself will test the progress of your child on their sight words every two weeks. When your child has moved up a list, we will send a letter/note of accomplishment home with them. This will help you share and celebrate their success.
